<image:caption>The Black Mount from Rannoch Moor in spring. I wanted a slightly different view of these hills other than the popular roadside view over Lochan na h-Achlaise. I set off from the car in the dark for a two mile walk aiming for a small lochan I had identified on my maps but realised that it wouldn't provide any interest when I arrived so I scouted a bit further and found a pleasing area of frozen moor to use as the foreground.
The two prominent 3000ft + hills are Stob a' Choire Odhair and Stob Ghabhar. A traverse of the remaining half dozen or so Black Mount hills makes for a classic high level Scottish mountain expedition.</image:caption>

Being a few feet short of 3000ft, it is less climbed than the Munro trio but still has it's own stature I think.</image:caption>

This view is from just below the summit cone looking back towards the arc of the north east ridge which provides unexpected interest if you unaware of it, which I certainly was.</image:caption>
